Happy Samhain, Halloween, and Day of the Dead!
To celebrate the holiday, I painted the last card in the Major Arcana, The World!
You'll notice I renamed the card to "The Universe," in honor of Aleister "the wickedest man in the world" Crowley's Thoth Tarot Deck. I felt like this was a much better representation of the meaning of the card.
The sash reads: "All light will turn to darkness, and in all darkness, there is found light." - an encapsulation of the entire deck and its philosophical underpinnings of balance, cycles, symmetry, nature, and man's place in the immense design of things, particularly of the shadowy parts of ourselves we seldom explore...
The four corners follow traditional RWS symbolism, but with ruling planets occupying the astrological equivalent of the animal effigies, rather than the heads themselves.
Above the figure's left hand is an infinite mark designed to invoke Ouroboros, and simultaneously symbolize the end of the Fool's journey of life (and death).
Enjoy the holiday!
